After a week of rain, the sunshine peered from behind the clouds as we arrived at The Cornish Airstream on Saturday afternoon. Our shiny retreat stood glowing with hues of gold, as the sun glistened over its exterior. We were amazed with the size of the outside space - a lovely enclosed patio area with far reaching views over blissful countryside hills. The hot tub was a real stand out feature and definitely added a touch of luxury!
Upon entering our quirky abode, we couldn’t quite believe this would be our home for the weekend. Immaculately presented, we were greeted with pretty flowers and delicious biscuits, which were a welcoming touch from the owners. There’s plenty of room for two, whilst still being lovely and cosy. We were a little peckish so decided to head out to pick up some supplies for the weekend. Although the airstream is tucked away in the quiet countryside, you are still within reach of all amenities, which is great!
We arrived back at our peaceful paradise and by this time, the sun began to set. We poured a glass of wine, accompanied by cheese and olives, and simply admired the dreamy display of colours in the sky. This really is the perfect spot to watch the sunset. Getting cosy under a blanket, we chatted away until the sun had completely disappeared over the gentle hills. The beautiful rural location meant we could embrace stillness and relax our busy minds in complete peace and quiet. As the stars appeared, we couldn’t wait to slip into the bubbling hot tub. After soaking all our worries away, we headed inside and were more than pleasantly surprised with how well the hideaway was heated. The comfy king-size bed is snuggled at the end of the hideaway. We hopped in and drifted off into a sweet slumber.
With the peaceful sound of birds singing their morning melody, we woke our sleepy heads and opened up the curtains to see the sun blissfully shining once again. Embracing a slow, snoozy morning, we popped the kettle on and sipped our brew as daylight filled the space with ease. We enjoyed breakfast alfresco… fresh sourdough, smashed avocado and poached eggs to fuel the day ahead!
Just a 20-minute drive away from the hideaway is postcard-pretty Looe. We hopped in the car and sang our favourite songs down the country lanes, admiring rural green pastures, gentle hills and farm animals along the way. Wanting to make the most of the weather, we had two things on our agenda; a country/coastal ramble and a wild swim! After arriving at Looe, we began our 7-mile circular walk from Looe to Talland Bay - one way through the unspoilt countryside and the other along the stunning South West Coast Path. It took us around an hour each way. Be aware there are steep hills which can be strenuous.
Towards the end of the walk the glistening Talland Bay was revealed, which bought back fond memories for me. My childhood summers were spent camping at Talland Bay with my family, it was a special day to revisit old memories. In need of a cool-down, we couldn’t wait for a refresheshing wild swim! The tide was out, revealing a large expanse of sand. Tranquil and calm, it was wonderful to see people paddle boarding and swimming in the sea. After our dip, we fancied a sweet treat, so headed to the beach café for a coffee and cake. We shared a salted caramel flapjack and biscoff brownie… utterly mouth-watering!
It was time to trek back up the hill and along the coast path - something I dreaded as a child, albeit it wasn’t so bad this time round. With plenty of picturesque scenery along the way, including glistening ocean views towards Looe Island and enchanting woodlands, lined with wild garlic, the walk is breathtaking. Arriving back at Looe, we wandered the cobbled streets and independent boutiques, purchasing a couple of souvenirs to remember our day; a lovely silver anklet and handmade porcelain drinks coaster. It was high tide and we walked around the harbour as pretty fishing boats came and went.
It was certainly beer garden weather, so we stopped at The Golden Guinea for a refreshing pint. The garden was a real sun trap with a lovely atmosphere - you wouldn’t realise it was there from the main street. We then grabbed fish and chips from Kelly’s of Looe, which we enjoyed on the harbourside and caught the last few moments of sun.
On returning to The Cornish Airstream, we simply couldn’t wait for a relaxing soak in the hot tub after our coastal ramble - reminiscing over the day’s adventures, we didn’t want the weekend to end. That night blessed us with another dreamy night’s sleep and we woke to the peaceful pitter-patter of rain on Monday morning. It was actually very soothing and added to the cosiness. Extremely grateful for the glorious weather we had over the weekend, we didn’t mind a bit of rain.
After saying our goodbyes, we stopped for brunch at Olive & Co at Sibylback Lake for some scrumptious food. We had hoped to do the lakeside walk, but unfortunately the weather was not in our favour. Although, we didn’t mind as we had got plenty of steps in the day before! We headed home feeling well rested and utterly content after our wholesome weekend stay at The Cornish Airstream.
