An afternoon at The Cove with Michael Caines
Penned on the 9th March 2023
We were lucky enough to be invited to The Cove in Falmouth for an afternoon of dining by the ‘C’ with award winning chef Michael Caines.
The Michael Caines Collection
With award winning cuisine at the heart of his collection, Michael champions using the best local produce to serve in the most idyllic locations. His collection currently consists of four beautiful eateries in the south west. The first being Lympstone Manor, a total embodiment of his vision. Offering five star luxury hotel rooms, Michelin star dining and a gorgeous vineyard. This Georgian Manor overlooks the Exe estuary and the Jurassic Coast, its location couldn't be more idyllic. Mickey’s Beach Restaurant is also located in beautiful Devon, overlooking the golden sandy beach in Exmouth.
The Harbourside Refuge offers a magical spot to enjoy informal foods, located in Porthleven. This quaint, Cornish fishing village provides the most picturesque scenery for your Micheal Caines dining experience. Pop in for some breakfast on your morning walk, stop for an afternoon brew or enjoy a romantic three-course dinner, there is always a warm welcome for all visitors.
We were lucky enough to be invited to The Cove, just a stone’s throw from the pretty town of Falmouth , overlooking Maenporth Beach. The glass front restaurant allows you to soak up the tranquil views of golden sand and turquoise water whilst sampling the freshest local produce Cornwall has to offer. It truly is a special sanctuary in one of the most picturesque spots in Cornwall.
Dining at The Cove
Michael and all the staff at The Cove were super accommodating and so lovely. We were welcomed with champagne and canapes, Michael was kind enough to explain his vision, which was truly inspiring. We absolutely love Cornwall and all it has to offer and The Cove truly pays respect to this, using local produce when possible, with a flexible menu to change with the seasons.
We were offered a delicious set menu by Michael, which accommodated for any dietary requirements. Starting with a pea and mint espuma, which was deliciously light and topped with crispy pancetta. We had Cornish hake for our main course, this was cooked to absolute perfection and super fresh with a tasty broccoli puree, served with sweet potato and chorizo… bursting with flavour! My dessert was a mango sorbet with dairy free chocolate and caramel, the most refreshing sweet treat to finish the meal.
The Cove is idyllic all year round, providing a relaxed dining setting with exceptional food, everyone is warmly welcomed. When the sun is shining, dine alfresco on the outdoor terrace and sample their delicious wine menu, stop for lunch after hiking the South West Coast Path or simply pop in for a coffee after a beach walk with your beloved pooch!
The location
We admired the glistening sea views on the deck as the February sun shone in Falmouth before deciding to make the most of the weather with a brisk walk along Maenporth Beach. The beach faces east across Falmouth bay with picturesque views towards Pendennis Castle and the lighthouse on St Anthony's Head, with pretty sailing boats gliding across the bay. The water at Maenporth is shallow and calm, making it perfect for wild swimming. Whether you are a keen wild swimmer or a beginner, Maenporth is a great place to start! It’s also a popular hub for stand up paddle boarding and a variety of other water sports. Hop in a kayak and head to pretty Swanpool Beach or take to the coastal path and admire glistening sea views from above.
