A tranquil weekend stay at Posy shepherd's hut

Nestled in the peaceful Somerset countryside you’ll discover the beautifully presented Posy: a cosy shepherd's hut that promises a luxurious escape to nature.

Arriving at Posy was like something out of a dream. A truly gorgeous hideaway, situated in the most idyllic spot, we couldn't quite believe this was going to be our home for the weekend. Glowing in the evening sun our hideaway sat peacefully in its blissful surroundings, providing the warmest welcome. As the sun dipped behind the trees, the picturesque landscape became golden… a magical start to our weekend retreat. We entered our humble abode to find wonderfully presented and cleverly designed interiors, which utilised the space perfectly.

The wooden, yet chic interiors make this hideaway super cosy and unique. We instantly felt relaxed and at home. Posy was superbly equipped and had everything we needed during our stay. The thoughtful finishing touches and cute decor completed this lovely little space! The comfy double bed unfolds from the wall. This clever design allowed us to make use of the inside space during the day. As we tend to feel the cold, we were a little concerned that we might be chilly in the evenings, but we were more than pleasantly surprised with how well both the hut and outside tub were heated. We snuggled up by the log burner and watched the embers soften.

To the left of the hut was the rustic quirky outdoor kitchen, which added to the character of this lovely retreat. It was complete with more thoughtful touches, such as cooking spices and a variety of utensils, everything we needed to rustle up a delicious meal for two.

We had the most romantic Friday evening, simply enjoying the peaceful ambience of the outside space, with twinkling fairy lights and a warm glow from the fire. After lighting the fire pit, we had dessert under the stars, accompanied by a glass of wine and some delicious cider from local orchards in Somerset. With the outside bath running and candles lit, it was the perfect time to head to the fire heated, alfresco tub. Soaking in the bath and being surrounded by nature was a highlight of the weekend. We were able to forget about the hustle and bustle of our everyday routine and truly relax and recharge. Taking in the tranquil surroundings, with the wind kissing the trees and the starry sky above made for a magical evening that we will cherish forever.

We woke up the next morning to glorious sunshine. Opening all the windows and large double doors allowed the fresh morning breeze and warm summer glow to flood the space. After brewing a cup of tea, we simply sat for a while watching the cutest Shetland ponies in the field beyond. We could have easily stayed here all day but decided to head out on a walk around the neighbouring fields and quaint country lanes.

First, we took a refreshing cold dip in the outside bath, recommended to clear a sleepy head and set you up with the most positive mindset for the day ahead. As we put on our walking boots and strolled through the idyllic countryside, we were amazed by the spectacular views overlooking neighbouring hamlets and beautiful churches. We were lucky enough that the bluebells were in full bloom, this added a wonderful pop of colour amongst the vibrant greenery.

We headed out to the local town of Ilminster, adorned with beautiful period buildings. Strolling through the town, we stumbled across a stunning bakery, situated in the Phoenix Studios across the way from Alice Temperly’s studios. We were spoilt for choice with their delicious selection of freshly baked bread and a range of pastries. We opted for a sweet cinnamon swirl and heavenly cup of coffee, which we enjoyed on the outside seating area situated on the prettiest street. It was a cafe by day and cocktail bar by night, giving us the perfect excuse to return to try out their cocktails!

The studios were incredible to have a wander around. The town itself also offers an array of shops with local produce and independents, it is definitely worth a browse. There is something for everyone. By this time, we were getting peckish, there are so many lovely places to eat in Somerset, we decided to check out the local pub The Lamb and Lion. It was in walking distance to Posy or just a short drive away and was the perfect place for dinner. We carried on the evening, arriving at The Cider Bus, where there was a real buzz and a great atmosphere. It was a real experience to try out local produce here. Posy is in the perfect position for exploring this beautiful part of Somerset.

We couldn’t wait to return back to our heavenly hideaway at the end of the day. We got toasty around the fire pit once again, this time indulging in a delicious cheese board. We headed inside and snuggled up in the cosy bed, reminiscing over the lovely day we had, as we drifted into the most peaceful sleep. As Sunday morning arrived, we treated ourselves to breakfast in bed, a delicious croissant we had picked up from the bakery the previous day. This complemented our freshly brewed morning coffee, which we sipped and watched the world go by, listening to the calming soundscape. It was the perfect way to finish our relaxing experience at Posy…we already can't wait to return!
