Introduction
Overview
Calling to lovers of adventure, this beautiful and bespoke cabin resides in the leafy depths of Kudhva, a magical abandoned quarry and 43-acre site in one of Cornwall’s National Landscapes. Meaning ‘woodland’ in the Cornish language, Koes Cabin is true to its name and takes you on an unforgettable escape into the tangled wilderness. Off-the-beaten-track and off-grid, it’s wonderfully easy to switch off from everyday life and embrace blissful, slow days spent in the most sublime setting. Spend time relaxing and socialising in the cabin’s open-plan living area that opens up to the spacious decking and fire pit, cook feasts under a starlit sky, and soak up the idylls from the wood-fired hot tub, before settling down to the most restorative rest amongst the trees.
Step Inside
With a fascinating, bespoke design modelled on the structure of the historic mining engine house onsite, you’re invited to open up the cabin’s unique folding walls and welcome the natural world inside. The open-plan living area is flooded by light and captivating views of the surrounding woodland, and offers the perfect place to reconnect with each other and nature. Gather together around the wooden island as you share stories and plan the day ahead, or sink into the swaying egg chair in the corner and take in the scenery that unfurls around you. At the other end of the cabin you’ll find two sofas and a bookshelf for leisurely hours spent reading and chatting, before pushing the seating together to form a cosy double bed or leaving them as two single beds if required. In the middle of the room, a ladder climbs to a mezzanine floor where two bunk beds reside, sleeping four adults and offering the most peaceful place to drift into slumber. A few steps away from the cabin is a private compost toilet.
The lighting and plug sockets for charging phones are powered by solar and can therefore have a limited supply, encouraging you to unplug during your stay as you sink into woodland life. Housed in the island, a Yeti cooler keeps your food and drink fresh, while a camping Gaz stove promises wonderfully simple cooking. Or, why not cook a delicious dinner to be shared with friends over the flickering flames of the fire pit? For additional facilities, a short walk up to the communal space provides everything you need for your stay. You can cook up a feast using the two gas burners, and dine at the large benches inside the kitchen-diner or outside at one of the picnic tables surrounded by trees and relics of Cornwall’s mining past. There are also fridges, a water supply and large sinks, and a selection of plates, cutlery, and Moka pots for perfectly-brewed, fresh coffee. Yallah Coffee and herbal teas are available throughout your stay, and you can order a delicious breakfast hamper through Kudhva from a local farm.
Alongside the spacious shared kitchen and lounge area, the reception features a shop where you can purchase locally sourced items including toiletries, beers, and Kudhva clothing as a keepsake from your time here. In the building next door, you’ll find a block of flushing toilets and hot showers featuring gorgeous Reia and land&water products for your use.
Outdoors
Nestled in a National Landscape and abandoned slate quarry, breathtaking scenery awaits from every perspective at Kudhva. Located in its most densely wooded part, Koes Cabin is a green oasis where you can indulge in the joy of forest bathing, soaking up the soothing sights and sounds of resident wildlife. The outside area features four benches surrounding the fire pit at the heart of the space, calling for blissful time spent together under dappled sunlight or starlit skies. Cook over the fire pit and enjoy a hot drink as you share stories long into the night.
Just beyond the cabin, a winding path guides you along a short but adventurous walk through the trees to Kudhva’s stunning 40-ft waterfall. Bounding over the slate cliff, this is a revitalising place to refresh under the spring-fresh water or simply watch it cascading into the lake. You can gently amble around the lake on the pontoon with a paddle or find a spot to sit and take in the beauty of nature. Continue your Kudhva immersion with a heavenly dip in the standing wood-fired hot tub where you can book a private hour slot. As you slip into the steaming water, your senses will be awash with soul-stirring views over the Cornish coast, the soft sound of birdsong, and Epsom salts to soothe the body.
Explore
With Cornwall’s wild and endlessly captivating north coast on your doorstep, it’s blissfully easy to fill your days with Cornish adventures. The beautiful beach Trebarwith Strand is a scenic 25-minute walk away, inviting you to stroll through dappled scenes before reaching tumbling waves and a rugged coastal setting. The beach is fully revealed at low tide when a sweeping stretch of golden sand and rock pools emerge from the retreating ocean. Heading up the coast, the spellbinding landmarks of North Cornwall promise enchanting days around every myth-wrapped corner. Perched high on the clifftops near Tintagel, the famous Tintagel Castle boasts breathtaking views along the coastline, with legendary statues and tumbling waterfalls punctuating the views. Or, you can turn your feet inland and uncover the fairytale setting of St Nectans Glen.
