Unique hideaways sponsors Wildwood Devon
Penned on the 7th August 2023
With fewer than 160,000 red squirrels left in the UK, time is running out to save this beloved species - our sponsorship represents a shared vision towards protecting them.
Wildwood Devon, part of leading conservation charity Wildwood Trust, provides a safe haven for red squirrels. The only place to see red squirrels in Devon, their walkway allows visitors to walk through their enclosure and see them up close in their natural habitat. With our £1,000 sponsorship, we are delighted to support Wildwood Devon in helping to protect endangered red squirrels in the UK. Here at Unique hideaways we appreciate everything nature gives and want to ensure that we are always finding new ways to care for it.
Since 2002, Wildwood Trust has bred an average of six red squirrels each year which have contributed to reintroductions in Wales; Anglesey Island, Gwynedd and Clocaenog Forest. Wildwood Devon is currently in the process of building a new red squirrel breeding facility, due to open in the late summer. Squirrels bred here will either be sent for release or will remain at Wildwood to educate the public on the challenges faced by red squirrels. Unique hideaways’ sponsorship not only enhances the park's ability to provide a safe haven for red squirrels but also helps strengthen its commitment to raising awareness about the importance of their preservation. Partnerships Manager, Beth Markey, says: "We are delighted to have Unique hideaways as sponsors of our Red Squirrel Walkway. Red squirrels are a cherished native species to the UK but they are under threat. Unique hideaways’ sponsorship will contribute to the ongoing effort here at Wildwood to conserve and protect red squirrels.”
