You’ll have plenty of choice for a delicious al fresco dinner - cook up your own pizza in the wonderful DeliVita pizza oven or light up the barbecue for a tasty meal in the glorious evening sunshine. The outside space doesn’t end at your enclosed garden; if you venture a little farther, you will find a secret seating area that makes the most of the picturesque countryside views. The owners have truly put their heart and soul into crafting this retreat, with an eye for detail. They live on site, close by if you need them, but you are assured of your privacy. There is one other hideaway on site, The Whistle, but both huts are positioned in a way that you have complete privacy. If you would like to holiday with friends, these two hideaways are the perfect solution! A special place to retreat to together, but with your own secluded areas. The only other neighbours you have to worry about are the friendly sheep, who will remind you of your charming, rural surroundings. By prior arrangement (and for an additional cost and with 48 hours notice) the owners are able to provide you with pizza dough and barbecue packs of delicious local produce - what a treat!

Out and About

It would be easy to spend all of your holiday enjoying this wonderful haven but if you do want to explore the picturesque local area, you won’t fall short of choice. The hamlet of Allowenshay dates back to the 13th Century and is nestled in the heart of the rich countryside of south Somerset, surrounded by fields, woods and chocolate box villages. There are plenty of pubs in the area and you can walk for miles along the footpaths. A local favourite is The Dinnington Docks pub, situated a mile from The Crook. The nearest larger towns are Ilminster and Crewkerne which have some independent artisan shops.

For a true local experience, head to Perry's Cider Mill where they have been making cider since 1920; be sure to pick up a bottle or two to enjoy back at The Crook. Another destination close by that is worth a visit is Forde Abbey, a historic country house with beautiful, award-winning gardens just waiting to be explored. Slightly further afield but still within easy reach by car is the infamous Dorset Jurassic Coast, where golden cliffs soar high and some of the most preserved fossils can be found. Finish your day off with dinner at the seafront in Lyme Regis (the seafood here is incredible!).
