The picture-perfect window at the end of the bed, makes the perfect spot to sip your morning coffee, whilst taking in the glorious views. Beautifully styled, the kitchen is superbly equipped with everything you could need, including a Nespresso coffee machine. Enjoy a romantic dinner for two or snuggle up besides the wood-burner on chillier nights. Outdoors
After a day of exploring or simply relaxing in the peaceful countryside, fire up the hot tub and spend the evening soaking under the stars with a glass of bubbly. You’ll have plenty of choice for a delicious al fresco dinner - cook up your own pizza in the wonderful DeliVita pizza oven or light up the barbecue for a tasty meal in the glorious evening sunshine, with all logs and charcoal thoughtfully provided by the owners so you don’t need to worry about bringing or buying any. The outside space doesn’t end at your enclosed garden; if you venture a little farther, you will find a secret seating area that makes the most of the picturesque countryside views. Here you will find a love seat, tucked under an oak tree, a charming spot for two.
Explore
It would be easy to spend all of your holiday enjoying this wonderful haven but if you do want to explore the picturesque local area, you won’t fall short of choice. The hamlet of Allowenshay dates back to the 13th Century and is nestled in the heart of the rich countryside of south Somerset, surrounded by fields, woods and chocolate box villages. There are plenty of pubs in the area and you can walk for miles along the footpaths. The nearest larger towns are Ilminster and Crewkerne which have some independent artisan shops.
For a true local experience, head to Perry's Cider Mill where they have been making cider since 1920; be sure to pick up a bottle or two to enjoy back at The Crook. Another destination close by that is worth a visit is Forde Abbey, a historic country house with beautiful, award-winning gardens just waiting to be explored. Slightly further afield but still within easy reach by car is the infamous Dorset Jurassic Coast, where golden cliffs soar high and some of the most preserved fossils can be found. Finish your day off with dinner at the seafront in Lyme Regis (the seafood here is incredible!).

We had an amazing weekend staying in 'The Crook', it was very comfortable and clean and had everything you needed, bedding, towels and bath robes were very high quality which meant a lot to me. The hot tub and pizza oven were a delight. The area is beautiful and peaceful and local to all cute country pubs and only 30 mins from Lyme Regis which was a great day out! The owners were very accommodating and nothing was too much trouble and very happy answering questions I had and local recommendations. It really was the perfect escape and we can't wait to return.

We had the most wonderful stay in this superb shepherd’s hut! Nestled on a beautiful farm with breathtaking views, it was the perfect countryside escape. The hut itself was spotlessly clean, extremely comfortable, and had absolutely everything we needed for a relaxing break. The hot tub was a real treat, especially under the stars, and we had so much fun firing up the pizza oven for an evening feast. Our hosts were fantastic – warm, welcoming, and always on hand if we needed anything, yet respectful of our privacy.
We honestly didn’t want to leave and have already decided we’ll be coming back. I can’t recommend this place highly enough – go and stay, you’ll love it as much as we did!

Me and my partner loved The Crook. The host Nick was lovely and very welcoming. The shepherd hut was extremely thought out, very clean and great decor. We loved all the extras; the hot tub, pizza oven, fire pit, games, beautiful scenery and extremely friendly sheep!
Would highly recommend this stay, for a relaxing, back to nature trip!
Thank you so much!

We booked the Crook during May half term for a relaxing break. We live in a city so we wanted peace and quiet. And we got exactly that. We were surrounded by fields, trees, sheep and birds.
The hut is perfectly suited for 2 people and there is everything provided to make the stay comfortable. There is different seating area depending on your mood: the egg chair, the table and chairs with a chimnea, the loungers, the seating inside with a wood burner.
The hot tub was a very pleasing and relaxing experience. The owner was.very helpful in setting it up for us. Bathrobes are provided and they were well appreciated.
The owners are very thoughtful, providing fresh milk, biscuits, cider bottles, tea bags and coffee. They can also arrange pizza dough and a bbq pack.
You can either stay in the hut and make the most of the facilities provided, or you can visit the area. We walked to Perry's cider and the Donnington pub.

Just returned from an amazing bank holiday stay at The Crook. The hut is like a tardis - much bigger on the inside than it looks!
There is everything you should need/want for a perfect relaxing stay - including some very friendly sheep as your neighbours!
The hot tub was very kindly heated for when we arrived and plenty of wood to reheat if you wanted to use it again. There is charcoal ready for if you want to have a nice bbq and the pizza oven is fantastic. There’s even a nice little area a short walk from the hut which is perfect to watch the sunrise.
There is also whole guide that has been brilliantly put together with lots information on what can be done/seen nearby!
Nick and Sallie were great hosts and we will definitely be returning in the not too distant future!

The Crook was exactly as described in the website and pictures. It a cozy cottage with all the necessary amenities and some extra! The welcome booklet was one the best and had all the information one needed on the cottage and things to do in the surrounding premises. Host Nick was very friendly, helpful and prompt in replies to any queries we had. The Dinnington pub and Perry's cider are worth a visit. The outdoor hot tub was a great way to enjoy the beautiful surroundings. Do bring crisps for the friendly sheep!

The crook is a just wonderful place. Beautifully romantic and surprisingly spacious shepherd’s hut.
The hosts (the Rutters) provide a wonderful service, with pizza dough for the pizza oven, more than enough wood to rotate through each of the 4 different fireplaces.
That the hot tub and tap water is fed from local natural spring / bored water is an added bonus. Great for the skin.

Hosts were great and welcome back was so informative. We made use of everything, bbq with locally sourced bbq pack, pizza oven with pizza doughs provided by the hosts. It was a great trip and we had a lovely time. Home made brownies and drinks waiting for us in the fridge were a thoughtful touch, with the hot tub ready for our arrival. Would highly recommend.

We had an incredible two night stay at The Crook, surrounded by beautiful scenery, baa-ing sheep and amazing accommodation! No stone has been left unturned in The Crook and every tiny detail has been thought of. The hut itself feels like luxury throughout, as do the surroundings and facilities. We used the pizza oven on our first night which was great fun and the pizza was amazing. Nick and Sallie were great hosts and had prepared the hot tub for our arrival too. Lots to do nearby, including a trip to Perry’s Cider which was really lovely. Can’t recommend highly enough, would definitely stay again!

Perfect break for a couple. Beautiful location, so peaceful apart from the occasional baaa! We loved being so close to she sheep and the horse stables on site. A 15 minute walk to the local pub dinnington docks that provided incredible food and drinks. Lovely hot tub and log burner which we used every night, overall the perfect place to see in the new year. The crook and surrounding area is beautiful. The crook had it all, hot tub, wood fired pizza, great patio area, under floor heating and more……we brought our 4month old daughter and she loved it, especially seeing the friendly sheep and horses nearby. Nick and Sallie were amazing hosts, I could really tell that they cared about our stay at the crook, they were very welcoming and friendly. It was our first holiday the three of us as a family and am so glad that I chose The crook as our first getaway. Thank you so much for a wonderful break and we will be coming again!

July 2022
We chose The Crook as it was a spacious shepherds hut in a peaceful location. The hut felt roomy with space to walk around the bed, full size bathroom and plenty of living space. Everything is luxurious, from the high quality bed linen and towels to the pizza oven, BBQ, hot tub and egg chair. The setting was wonderful with views for miles, we saw lots of stars and hot air balloons and we loved sitting under the oak tree to escape the heat of the day. There are walks on your doorstep and Perry's cider a 30minute walk away, with beaches further afield. Equally you could while the whole day away at the hut with the sheep for company.
