Unique Hideaways builds a bug hotel at Newquay Orchard

Our task for the day was to help build a new bug hotel in the Nurture Garden, a carefully layered habitat designed to support the tiny but vital creatures that keep ecosystems thriving. Armed with wheelbarrows and work gloves, we set to work stacking logs, arranging branches, and tucking in bundles of natural materials. Much of what we used had been reclaimed from recent storm damage - fallen trees and broken branches given a second life, creating a habitat that will soon be home to solitary bees, beetles, and other essential pollinators.

Newquay Orchard is more than a place to grow food. It’s a community-rooted space that nurtures wellbeing through connection to nature - whether that’s tending vegetables, learning new skills, joining gentle outdoor sessions, or simply spending time among trees and wildflower meadows.
