All aboard The Ark for a wellness retreat

Moored peacefully in a private Cornish marina, The Ark set the tone for our Unique Hideaways team wellness weekend from the start. With its gentle waterside setting and thoughtfully designed spaces, it offered the chance to step away from busy routines and come together for a few days of rest, reconnection and shared moments - the perfect backdrop for a restorative retreat on the water.

 Captain's quarters on The Ark

We arrived on a wet and windswept afternoon, yet our spirits were high from the moment we stepped aboard. We were immediately struck by the sheer scale of The Ark, unfolding into generous, beautifully considered (and fun!) spaces across multiple levels. Bags were dropped, coats discarded, and we set off exploring: discovering the serene yoga studio, cosy cabins, and the captain’s quarters, before heading out for an early evening stroll to take in the moody views across the marina as the light softened over the water. Soon, the rest of the team arrived, and the hideaway was filled with chatter and excitement.

Dinner at The Ark

Dinner that evening was relaxed and nourishing - homemade pizzas, fresh salads and Pinterest-inspired ideas brought to life. We gathered around the generous dining table and nestled into the cushioned sofa bench, plates piled high, glasses clinking, and the gentle movement of boats bobbing outside the windows as the sun dipped below the horizon. The evening unfolded with board games, laughter and catch-ups before we eventually turned in for the night. The team split between the Captain’s Quarters, Hideout and the 1st Mate’s cabin on the main deck, and the crew cabins below deck. These were a welcome retreat, complete with porthole windows, luxury linens and plenty of space to settle in.

Yoga on The Ark

The following morning began with a yoga class in the spacious studio. Light poured in through the skylight, dancing across the walls as reflections shimmered from the water outside. It was grounding, calming, and set the tone beautifully for the day ahead. This truly special space also doubles as a dance hall, complete with disco lights and a karaoke machine - a playful contrast to our zen mornings. Afterwards, we gathered for breakfast: fresh juices, flaky croissants, eggs, avocado, yoghurt and berries laid out to fuel us for a day of exploring.

Breakfast on The Ark

Wrapped up against the crisp winter air, we headed out for a coastal walk around the rugged Rame Head peninsula with the sea stretching endlessly beside us. As the sun made an appearance, we continued on to Kingsand and Cawsand, wandering through the quaint streets lined with colourful cottages before reaching the secluded beach. Braving the cold water, some of the team opted for an invigorating wild swim, followed by a laid-back picnic and takeaway coffees from the local beachside café to warm us through.

Team walk at Rame Head

Back at The Ark, the marina was glassy and still as the sun began to set, so naturally, paddleboards were launched, grateful that everything had been thoughtfully provided. After showers and a quick change, we hopped on the ferry across to Royal William Yard for the evening. We started with a pre-dinner drink and nibbles at La Vignoble, a cosy waterside wine bar, before heading to Pierre Bistro for a hearty French dinner with a welcoming atmosphere. Feeling full and content, we returned to The Ark for peppermint tea and a few more games of cards, sprawling out across the spacious living area, reluctant for the day to end.

Bedroom views at The Ark

Our final morning was unhurried. Not quite ready to leave, we lingered over breakfast, reminiscing about the night before and soaking up the last moments aboard. Late morning passed slowly, a few more board games, hot chocolates sipped from the captain’s lookout, and long pauses spent simply admiring the view.

 Sunset watching at The Ark

The Ark proved to be an exceptional hideaway for a group retreat, offering both space and serenity in equal measure. We left feeling restored and inspired, knowing we could have stayed longer. With its peaceful setting, thoughtful design and abundance of nearby beauty - and the added bonus of being perfect for special celebrations - it was a truly memorable place for our wellness-led escape on the water.
