Magical mid Devon – don’t miss out!

Having four fabulous retreats in mid Devon, we're sold. Now let us fill you in...

Firstly, we all know about south Devon’s popular coastline and must-visit places such as Dartmouth and Salcombe, north Devon’s long sandy beaches and water sports scene and east Devon’s stunning Jurassic coast and pebble beaches. But mid Devon has something completely different to offer.

How does peace and tranquillity away from the madding crowd sound? Well in mid Devon you will find quiet lanes buzzing only with wildlife and flowers, even in the height of summer. Or how about a picnic at a secret riverside spot or being the sole wanderers along an ‘off the beaten track’ Forestry Commission woodland trail? Sounds idyllic, doesn’t it, but that’s not all!

If it’s culture you’re after, jump on the picturesque Tarka train line and village-hop your way into the Cathedral City of Exeter. For unspoilt wildness and open space in the great outdoors, Dartmoor and Exmoor are close by, perfect for blowing away the cobwebs. If you fancy some history, visit Knightshayes Court, Bickleigh Castle or Fursdon House. For a bit of retail therapy, there is a weekly Pannier market at South Moulton as well as boutiques and antiques shops. Good ol’ pub grub and wonderful Sunday lunches are served at numerous characterful village pubs – try The Lamb at Sandford or the historic thatched New Inn at Coleford. The Waie Inn at Zeal Monochorom is great too, especially for the kids with fabulous indoor and outdoor play areas. To experience a real taste of this truly special area, visit the local farm shops and farmer’s markets – perfect for picking up scrummy treats.

To top it all off, the ancient farmsteads and tiny hamlets have magical names such as Cheriton Fitzpaine, Stockleigh English, Morchard Bishop and Stockleigh Pomeroy, rich red soil and Ruby Red cattle in the green fields, all celebrating this stunning landscape.

Tempted to visit? We have two gorgeous retreats in this fabulous area awaiting you:
