Perched high above the charming town of Crickhowell, this lovingly handcrafted cabin reflects a deep connection to its surroundings. Created from reclaimed and upcycled materials, every detail tells its own story, adding warmth and character to this beautiful space.
From the moment you arrive, the pace slows down. Wake to birdsong drifting across the valley, spend peaceful mornings watching red kites circle overhead, and let the calm rhythm of the countryside guide your day. As dusk settles, light the fire pit and sink into the stillness, beneath a sky scattered with stars and the last glow of sunset fading over the mountains.

Overview
Step Inside
Step through the door and into a space that feels warm, welcoming and wonderfully unique. Handcrafted with care by owner Tan, who appeared on Britain’s Best Woodworker, the cabin celebrates natural materials and artisanal techniques, with wooden interiors and thoughtful details giving it a soulful charm. At the centre of the space sits a king-size bed, perfectly positioned to take in the surrounding views through windows on every side. Wake slowly as the first light spills across the hills, enjoying the sunrise from the comfort of your bed, with plenty of storage neatly tucked beneath.
A bijou kitchen provides the essentials for simple meals, with a kettle, two-ring hob and a fridge. Pull out the neatly stowed wooden bench and table, where a hand-whittled chess set awaits, and settle in for unplugged evenings beside the gentle glow of the wood-burner.
Just beyond the kitchen, the tin-lined bathroom features a WC, wash basin, and rainfall shower.
Outdoors
Step outside and admire the landscape that opens up before you. The cabin sits within its own enclosed garden, where friendly neighbouring sheep sometimes graze quietly beyond the fence, and wide views stretch across patchwork countryside to distant peaks.
A raised, wraparound terrace invites slow mornings with a coffee in hand, soaking in the ever-changing panoramas. Follow the steps down to the sheltered alfresco kitchen for a dose of outdoor cooking on the two-ring gas hob, with fresh country air and mountain views as your backdrop. As evening settles, gather around the fire pit featuring a cooking tripod on the wooden loungers, toasting marshmallows and watching the sun melt gently behind the hills.
Set within a designated Dark Sky Reserve, look up to find a canopy of stars stretching endlessly above, and if you’re lucky, you might even catch a glimpse of the Northern Lights.
Explore
Perched above the picturesque market town of Crickhowell, Caban Tarren places you in one of the most beautiful corners of the Brecon Beacons National Park. From your hillside hideaway, footpaths wind gently through fields and hedgerows towards the welcoming local pub, around a 25-minute walk away - the perfect reward after a day of exploring.
The nearby town of Crickhowell, just a short drive away, is full of character, with the River Usk flowing through its heart. Wander across the historic stone bridge, browse the independent shops along the high street, or stop by the much-loved bookshop and café for coffee and a slow morning read. There’s also a great selection of welcoming pubs and bars, serving excellent food, perfect for long, leisurely lunches or hearty evening meals. An award-winning butcher can even deliver locally sourced produce straight to your hideaway, while a refill shop champions sustainable living. History lovers will adore the atmospheric ruins of Crickhowell Castle, which look out across the rooftops and surrounding hills.
A short drive away lies the beloved literary town of Hay-on-Wye, famous for its vast array of independent bookshops and the world-renowned Hay Festival. Spend an afternoon browsing shelves, exploring antique stores and galleries, or enjoying lunch in one of the many charming cafés before returning to your peaceful cabin.
