The talented owners are artists themselves and their creative flair flows throughout. From its bohemian charm to its wonderful collection of books and paint brushes, it really is the most unique retreat. Head out for a countryside ramble, visit the north Devon coast or simply spend your days cosied up at this bespoke hideaway.

Step Inside

Wander the tree lined pathway, complete with pretty festoon lighting and arrive at The Artist's Garret. Step inside and fall in love with its inviting aura, artistic touches and rich colour pallet. So much thought has gone into the design of this bohemian boudoir. The open plan living space is a dream, combining rustic and modern living. The kitchen is sleek and stylish, complete with everything you’ll need during your stay. Whilst the living area is lavishly vibrant, owing to its beautiful rug and designer wallpaper. There is also a Smart TV, should you wish to get cosy on the comfy sofa and pop on your favourite film. The antique Indian, distressed painted doors are such a special feature, leading you into the gorgeous bedroom. Here, you will find the sumptuous king-size bed adorned with luxurious Egyptian cotton linen, where you are promised a restful night's sleep. The beautifully presented shower room is idyllic for freshening up after a day's adventures, we absolutely love the rainfall shower!

Outdoors

Hidden amongst a canopy of trees, step out onto the sundowner balcony for picturesque views over the sculpture gardens and lush rolling hills. Such a peaceful setting to enjoy your morning brew or delve into a new book, with the sweet sound of birdsong filling the air. From the balcony, cross the specifically designed bridge to your secluded patio area. As the sun sets, illuminating the space in golden light, fire up the barbecue and indulge in some holiday delights. You can pre-order a barbecue pack of local Devon produce, just speak to the lovely owners to arrange. As the stars twinkle in the sky above, pour a glass of bubbles and cheers to a wonderful getaway with the one you love most.

Eco-features

Through Burnswood Boutique Escapes, the owners share their love of art and nature. Having planted indigenous trees and wildflowers to create an oasis for wildlife and adding a rocket hive for wild bees, it is the perfect retreat for nature lovers. With 40 different species of birds, including birds of prey like buzzards and falcons, foxes, hedgehogs and rabbits all making their home here!

Explore

We wouldn’t blame you for wanting to spend your days snuggled up, cocooned in this romantic hideaway. However, if you did want to head out and explore, we would definitely recommend adding a trip to Dartmoor National Park to your itinerary. Known for its rich history and rare wildlife, you will find miles of outstanding beauty just waiting to be discovered. Grab your walking boots and head out on a hike, hop on your bike for some adventure filled cycling or pack your swimwear and embrace a wild swim, the list is endless! Here, you will also find plenty of breathtaking spots, including Castle Drogo, Finch Foundry and Fernworthy Reservoir. There are several National Trust properties nearby, including Lydford Gorge, Buckland Abbey and Cotehele, all of which are worth a visit!

Sitting between both the north and south coast, a day at the beach is a must. The best spots for surfing are on the north coast at Widemouth Bay, Braunton and Woolacombe or head to the gentler south coast shores of Exmouth, Teignmouth and Shaldon on a blissful summer's day. Alternatively, you can visit Bude on the north Coast in Cornwall. Bude boasts lovely sandy beaches and independently owned shops and restaurants.

Okehampton is the nearest town, where you will find wonderful farm-gate stalls for the fresh local goodies, boutiques, tea rooms and independent shops. Tavistock is also a lovely town, both have weekly Pannier Markets. If you fancy a spot of retail therapy, the bustling city of Exeter is not too far away. With all of this to explore and more, you will love returning back to The Artist's Garret for a candlelit dinner with that special someone.

Extra Information

You may have noticed the gorgeous artistic theme flowing throughout this hideaway. The lovely owners are talented sculpture artists and run wonderful workshops on site. As part of Burnswood Boutique Escapes, there are also two shepherd’s huts on site, DaVinci’s Den (5142) and Rodin’s Retreat (5145). All hideaways are situated within the grounds of the owner’s sculpture school and gardens. You are more than welcome to enjoy the open gallery area during your stay. The owners live across the road and are happy to help with any questions you may have, as well as organise breakfast and barbecue hampers. All hideaways are assured privacy, with your own secluded areas to enjoy. If you are looking for a special place to retreat to with friends, this would be a lovely solution.

Important Information

Whilst the hideaway is nestled in nature, it is set back from a road. This gives you easy access to plenty of beautiful places in Devon, please take caution when pulling out. There may also be some occasional traffic sound from the road.
