Overview
Step Inside
From the moment you arrive, you’ll feel completely at home in this pocket-sized oasis for two. With open-plan, pastel-hued interiors you’ll find a small well-equipped kitchen, complete with a two-ring hob, fridge, kettle and toaster - everything you need to rustle up a breakfast in bed or a delicious dinner for two. There's also a delightful dining area which, when it comes to the time for resting your head, cleverly converts into the sumptuous double bed with its wonderfully thick mattress. A light and airy bathroom sits at the other end of your rural hideaway with a walk-in shower and toasty heated towel rail. As the evening draws in, put a record on the player, curl up in front of the flickering glow of the wood-burner and start planning the following day's adventures in this slice of paradise.
Outdoors
Feel your troubles melt away in the bubbling hot tub with a glass of your favourite tipple in-hand - whether it's by day, overlooking the rolling fields that stretch out before you or by night under the twinkling stars. With outside furniture tucked away in a sun-soaked corner next to your hideaway, spendy balmy afternoons by the barbecue fire pit for alfresco golden-hour feasts or simply dive into that holiday book you’ve been meaning to read.
Explore
If you can tear yourselves away, there is so much to see and do nearby. Close to home, the pretty village of Stoke Gabriel is just a short stroll away, and if you fancy a meal out, head to The River Shack, a picturesque café perched on the edge of a mill pond. It's also the perfect place for a countryside wander or to try your hand at crabbing or kayaking along the River Dart. Visiting the charming church yard is a must - here you will find the oldest Yew Tree in Britain, said to date back 1000 years. Local folklore says that you will be granted a wish if you walk backwards around the tree seven times.
The vibrant town of Totnes is also a short distance away, boasting a plethora of independent shops, charming cafés and welcoming pubs to discover. For some delicious local produce look out for the bustling weekly market where you can find hot food stalls, plants, antiques and hidden treasures.
With a wealth of walks on your doorstep, there’s plenty to explore - head along the bridle path in the direction of Totnes and witness the beauty of the south Devon countryside. Just a short drive away you’ll find numerous south Devon hotspots - from the dramatic Dartmoor National Park to the stunning golden beaches of Brixham, Slapton Sands (well-known for its role in the Allied preparations for the D-Day landings), Bigbury and Bantham.

What a wonderful weekend!
Exceeding expectations, so beautifully decorated and designed, with lovely touches, and in a perfect quiet and idyllic location! Star gazing from the hottub was amazing, and a cuppa with those views were wow!
15 minute walk to the bus stop for the Totnes bus was great so we didn’t need the car. Thankyou John & Diane - we will be back! Jamie and Lucy

Second time staying at Bowhay and it is perfect, just the most peaceful location with all the comforts of home. The log burner was perfect on the chilly start and end of the day. Hot tub was just what was needed after a nice long walk.
Close to Dartmouth, walked to Sandridge Barton for wine tasting, cheese and coffee and Stoke Gabriel, The Shack for a delicious cream tea.
Can not wait to go back again.

We had such a lovely weekend at Bowhay Shepherds Hut. The hosts were so thoughtful to leave some milk and eggs in the fridge which we really appreciated. The hut was so cozy and we had all the amenities we would need to make a quick meal or to cozy up and the hot tub was so enjoyable. We had so much fun playing scrabble and visiting the cute town nearby. We also got to say Hi to the alpacas greeting us by the entrance which was so cute. Recommend visiting the oldest yew tree at the churchyard , the river shack has some good views and delicious breakfast and the riverford field kitchen for amazing fresh produce in a really well thought out menu. Loved everything. Will definitely recommend to friends and family.

My daughter and I have just spent the most peaceful, relaxing weekend at Bowhay Shepherd’s Hut, a truly gorgeous setting, the hut is exceptional and very comfy bed, everything has a purpose. Nice bathroom, hot shower. Outside space is great with different areas to hang out, the hot tub was great, comfy loungers and eating area. We visited Totnes and Stoke Gabriel both very lovely and would recommend The Shack in Stoke Gabriel and The Curator in Totnes for eating out. It wasn’t as cheap as some other huts but we chose if for the hot tub, location and privacy.

We adored this shepherd's hut - a real home from home. Probably the cleanest place we have ever stayed - and there have been many. We loved the peacefulness of the location, the views from the hot tub, sitting by the firepit wrapped in a blanket gazing at a double rainbow, the pheasant strutting over the lawn and seeing the near full moon from our comfortable bed. A little piece of Devon heaven. Thank you.

This place is the most amazing beautiful peaceful place I have ever stayed in, in the UK. Stunning views, close to Torquay, Totnes, Paighton and Brixham. Lovely walks, Paighton Zoo not far away. Owners provide plenty of things for you to look at if you fancy a place to walk to, this was my 4th visit to my happy place. And hot tub is a lovely bonus

We stayed here last year and came back again this year.
The shepherd's hut sits in the most beautiful location with stunning views. The attention to detail in the accommodation and outside areas is second to none.
The hot tub is superb too.
The nearest local shop is a half hour pleasant walk away at Stoke Gabriel, which also has a pub and riverside restaurant where we had food and local beers and wine.
If you're after a peaceful get away from it all, this is the venue for you.
We love this place and look forward to visiting again in future!

Absolutely blown away by this amazing little Sheppards hut in Devon. It exceeded our expectations.
A peaceful location on higher ground giving you the most stunning views of the Devon countryside with total privacy.
The property and outside areas were spotlessly clean and finished to the highest standard. The attention to detail is what made this place so special. The owners clearly adore this place as it's so well looked after. It was very well equipt... They really had thought of everything!
The hot tub was a great bonus too and we were even supplied with hot tub towels.
This is a great option for a perfect little getaway from the hussle and bussle of busy life.
We had a little walk to the local shop and river side restaurant in Stoke Gabriel which was beautiful.
We loved it so much we are going to book to come back next year ??

The property was amazing, the hut was so nice and cute! Everything we needed and more was there! The hot tub was lovely and the bed was so comfy! All the little touches like a cup and bottle holder next to the hot tub was a great touch and all the little added details added to the character of the hut. The hosts were lovely and respected our privacy but made sure we were happy and that we had everything we needed. The location was stunning, in the middle of one of the most beautiful and quiet farms in the country, all you could hear were the animals which makes such a nice change from home! We didn't want to leave and we have already recommend Bowhay Shepherds hut to all of our friends and shared the link like crazy! Thank you so much!

What a dip; so good and smoothing to relax in each evening. My wife and I thoroughly enjoyed our stay. I have never before found myself wishing I was an artist ! The hut, it's cosy terrace, the hot tub with champagne bottle stand and filled glasses, the colourful flowers bordering the pathway, the chickens pecking away at the bottom of your own lawn, the views across the landscape from your commanding perch in any light or weather and of course the smiling Alpacas on welcoming duties at the gate.....all so pretty you will find it difficult to tear yourself away at times.

We had a wonderful 5 days in Bowhay Shepherds Hut - like many others Covid19 meant we had to cancel several holidays (overseas and UK), so this was our first trip away this year. We were absolutely delighted from the moment we arrived until the moment we left - it was exactly what we needed!
The views from the hut are beautiful and the location is excellent for walking. The hosts have equipped the hut extremely well and the outdoor hot tub is an added bonus. We fully intend to revisit next year.

August 2020
The Bowhay shepherd hut was a delight to stay at and the location and views are second to none. Shops and facilities are all within a short drive and there is plenty to do around the hut.
We used the hot tub nearly every night and the views come alive when it is a clear night and all the stars come out.
The hosts were excellent and more than accommodating, especially given the COVID pandemic. Fresh eggs, milk and orange juice were a lovely addition. Likewise a large store or kindling and logs for the indoor fire and firepit gave us several uses throughout the week.
We'd highly recommend the hut to anyone thinking about an escape to the country and some relaxation time.

August 2020
The Shepherds Hut at Bowhay is finished to an exceptionally high standard, complete with hot tub and amazing views. It exceeded all expectation, the added touch of providing fresh milk, eggs, orange juice and biscuits on arrival was a lovely gesture.
The hut itself is very well set out and offers ample storage areas, kitchen facilities and everything you can possibly need. The kitchen area was well stocked with utensils, cutlery and cleaning products. There is a selection of books/maps of the local area, tourist attraction information and board games also provided. Outside the hut, is a well placed hot tub, fire pit and seating area offering incredible views.
The location itself is great for exploring the local area and neighbouring towns/villages.
The accommodation and setting is a credit to the owners, both of who are very attentive and welcoming. We would not hesitate in recommending Bowhay and hope to return again in the future.
