Glamping pod in Cornwall: Can a view get much better than this? Endless sea, sky and the jewel of St Michael's Mount in the distance. Relax, recharge and drink it all in.

General

From a perch high above Mounts Bay, Scenic Bay enjoys a unique vista, sweeping from the Lizard peninsula in the east to the pretty fishing village of Mousehole in the west, via the jewel in the crown: St Michael's Mount, a unique tidal island that's the stuff of myth and legend. Picture yourself enjoying a lazy breakfast on the deck while watching seagulls wheel and boats bob, or sipping a sundowner as the stars appear one by one in the huge night sky.

Nestled into a scenic meadow just a couple of miles from the bustling Cornish market town of Penzance, this high quality glamping lodge is one of three that make up Mount's Bay Meadow Glamping, each very private and with its own seating deck and fire-pit barbecue. Cute as a button with its hobbit-like design, Scenic Bay has been designed and built bespoke to the site, and from the moment you step inside it's easy to see why this is the most luxurious style of camping pod available in the UK. Roomy enough for up to four adults, it's beautifully styled and equipped with everything you'll need for an unforgettable holiday. The open-plan space features a kitchenette with a sink, cooker, microwave, fridge, toaster and kettle, a dining table with four chairs and a corner sofa that converts easily to a double bed. There's even a TV, should you wish to catch up with the news or relax with a film. At the back of the pod is a comfy double bed, handy clothes storage and the doorway that leads to the sparkling white en suite shower-room (no need to tramp across muddy fields to a communal toilet block), which boasts hot and cold running water, a proper flushing WC and even a heated towel rail. Roasty-toasty all year round, thanks to excellent insulation, double glazing and under-floor heating, this is the perfect place in which to get away from it all, enjoying summer sun or wintry walks, and breathe deep, relax and unwind.

Out and About

Tear yourself away from the beautiful views and there is so much to do in this fascinating part of West Cornwall. First on the list has to be a visit to St Michael's Mount. Hop on a boat at high tide or walk the causeway if the water's out, and explore the castle that has been a monastery, fortress, port and family home. If the beach is your thing, grab your sunscreen, hire a surfboard and take a lesson on riding the waves at Sennen Cove, Gwithian or Porthmeor beaches, or simply bring a bucket and spade and enjoy a day in the sand. See a show at the world-famous Minack Theatre, explore the sculpture gardens (and excellent café) at Tremenheere, swim in Penzance's Art Deco lido, the Jubilee Pool, or wander the atmospheric streets of nearby Newlyn (great for fresh fish) or Mousehole. For retail therapy, why not nip into Penzance, St Ives or even the cathedral city of Truro, which is a 40-minute drive away? Or just take your time either walking the 12-mile St Michael's Way footpath or enjoying a pint in the excellent White Hart inn in nearby Ludgvan, one of the oldest pubs in Cornwall.
