May half term glamping holidays

Looking for the perfect family-together half-term holiday? We can make your dreams come true.

What are the half term dates for 2019?
This year, the May half term runs from the 24th of May to the 2nd June. Being exactly 6 weeks after the Easter break, it’s timed perfectly! The kids are well in-need of a break from school, the weather warms up and nature absolutely thrives – with green leaves and colourful blooms aplenty – is there a better time to get out and about in the great outdoors? We don’t think so. And, by going on a staycation at this time, you beat the summer holiday rush too. Sounds good, right?

When is the May bank holiday this year?
Well, that’s another very big positive of the May half term; the second bank holiday (Monday 27th May) falls within it! A win-win all-round as, for most, it means you get longer to spend with the kids, without having to take so much time off work, and ultimately spend less on childcare.

Why go glamping for May half term?
Why not! We may be biased, but it really is an ideal time for a family-together glamping break. Escape from modern life and enjoy a get-away-from-it-all sense of good ol’ fashioned family fun – fly a kite, forage for hedgerow berries, build a campfire and play some badminton or rounders in the safe, wide open spaces that our retreats sit within. Get out and about and explore the delights of the South West – from Cornwall to the Isle of Wight, all of the counties have their own charm – from natural beauties, such as beaches and moorland, to purpose-built family attractions and infamous towns and villages. At the end of the day, toast marshmallows around the fire-pit under the stars before snuggling down in your proper beds – that’s right, this is luxury glamping, where you can embrace the great outdoors without having to let go of life’s luxuries. All of our retreats have electric, kitchens, en suite shower/bathrooms (with hot and cold running water) as standard and oh-so-much more.

Where to stay for May half term?
Mounts Bay Meadow Glamping – Scenic Bay, Coastal Gaze and Mount Lookout | Near Penzance, Cornwall | Each pod sleeps 4 + cot
Nestled into a meadow where beautiful wild flowers blossom in the springtime, the view from here – over to majestic St Michael’s Mount and the sea and sky beyond – will quite literally take your breath away. Inside, the pods are surprisingly spacious, with room for a family of four (there is a double bed at the back and the comfy sofa turns into the second bed with ease) and including a kitchen area, shower-room and TV. The large meadow is the perfect place for the kids to run free and play in the May sunshine, whilst the adults keep watch from the decked veranda (which also looks out to the view – bliss!). There’s plenty to see and do nearby too, from great beaches to traditional towns and sweet Cornish fishing villages and more.
Mounts Bay Meadow GlampingShepherd’s Sky Super Hut | Near Tiverton, Devon | Sleeps 5 + cot
What’s the cutest sign of spring? Spring lambs, of course! And you may well spot some making home to the field in front of this fabulous shepherd’s hut – as well as the most beautiful spring blooms all around, a bonus of a rural location such as this. Close to nature yet far from the madding crowd, at 36’ long, with two bedrooms at either end and a lovely living-area in the middle, Shepherd’s Sky is truly unique. Surrounded by a fully enclosed garden, perfect for keeping little ones and the dog safe, you will witness some incredible panoramic sunsets over the rolling countryside from here. With a storage shed for your bikes too, this is the place for enjoying a slower pace of life.
Shepherd's Sky Super HutThe Witch’s Wagon at Warleggan | Near Lostwithiel, Cornwall | Sleeps 4 + cot
The village of Warleggan claims to be twinned with the mythical land of Narnia, and the aptly-named Witch’s Wagon is tucked into 12 acres of wonderful countryside, with stunning views over open meadows, moorland streams and historic woodland, within this magical place. Just imagine the wildlife you could spot from here in the springtime (perhaps you’ll even catch a glimpse of Mr Tumnus!). If the setting’s not enough, unspoilt Bodmin Moor can be reached by foot and the infamous Eden Project is just a short drive away (psst, they’re putting on an exciting half-term event for the kids). The hut itself is super-roomy with a king-size double bed, bunk-beds (the kids will love these) and, as standard, a kitchen and en suite shower-room.
The Witch's Wagon at WarlegganRoseland Valley Retreat | Near St Mawes, Cornwall | Sleeps up to 6 + cot
Wow. Just wow. This is the place to be when nature and wildlife flourishes in the spring. Inside is great here yes, but the outside, we are sure, is where the whole family will want to spend their time. There is so much on offer, including rope swings, football goals, woodland (with streams and cute little bridges), meadows (with hidden picnic spots and hammocks) and a lake (home to so much wildlife, including beautiful dragonflies, birds and fish). A deer has even been spotted here on occasion!
